Red Velvet Icing

Recipe Yield:
Icing for one 9-inch layer cake

This is a light cream cheese icing. A perfect topping to the Red Velvet Cake.


  • 8 ounces cream cheese (at room temperature)
  • 1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter (at room temperature)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar


  1. Mix the cream cheese, butter, and vanilla in the bowl of an electric mixer with the paddle attachment, until just combined.
  2. Add the sugar and mix until smooth.
  3. Ice, and enjoy!
